I went to my local Home Goods store and came across this great black glass drink shaker and after a few minutes of digging around I came across these perfect black glasses to go along with the shaker. Once I got them home I immediately knew how to decorate them. I got out my good old jar of Armour Etch Glass Etching Cream, dug through my extensive collection of "Made-To-Order" Adhesive Backed Vinyl Glass Etching Stencils from Etchworld.com and found the skull designs I knew would work perfectly. "Made-To-Order" Adhesive Backed Glass Etching Stencils are a 3-part stencil consisting of a top carrier sheet that holds all the stencil pieces in place during the application process, the center or actual stencil itself, and the backing sheet that protects the adhesive side of the stencil. I clean all the glass thoroughly to remove all finger prints and dust. I cut the stencils from the master sheet, removed the backing sheet and applied the adhesive backed stencil in place on the glass. I then peel the top carrier sheet off exposing the actual stencil. I then use a hobby knife or similar tool to pick out the pieces of the stencil where I want the etching to take place. Once the entire stencil has been picked or weeded", I surround the stencil with masking tape, creating a frame, slightly overlapping the stencil, to protect the surrounding glass from the etching cream. I brush on a thick layer of Armour Etch Cream covering the entire stencil. You want to cover the design completely with a thick layer of etching cream. View the directions and How To Videos. I wait 60-90 seconds and then take the project over to the sink and rinse off all the etching cream. When all the etching cream has been rinsed off, I remove all the remaining stencil pieces and clean the glass thoroughly with window cleaner. There you have it a real scary set of glasses that only took a few minutes time and a few dollars. Happy Halloween! |
