A beautiful mermaid leaves a trail of rhinestone bubbles as she swims across the ocean floor.
This mirrored toothbrush holder would be a nice addition to our Under The Sea bathroom vanity series.
Materials: #15-0200 Armour Etch Glass Etching Cream #21-1658 Over N Over stencil- Under the Sea #08-9606 Brushes #08-9999 Gloves #08-9415 Masking tape #61-3340 Dazzle Tac Glue #15-0315 Commercial quality glass cleaner Assorted clear glass rhinestones 3-5 mm Mirrored or glass toothbrush holder Toothpicks Scrap of tin foil Paper towels Directions: 1. Clean the side of the toothbrush holder with glass cleaner and a paper towel 2. Apply the ocean floor border across the bottom of the holder. If the border is too long, position the part of the design across the front and wrap the extra around to the sides. Make sure it is wrapped securely against the glass at the bend, check for any parts that are popping up and smooth them down. Cover the sides with masking tape. 3. Position the mermaid stencil horizontally across the middle of the holder as shown, tilted up slightly, so she looks like a person would look when swimming. 4 .Surround stencils with masking tape, overlapping all edges, cover entire side of the glass, cover all gaps and open spaces in the surrounding area to be etched 5. Put on the rubber gloves. Load the brush with Armour Glass Etching cream. PAT the etch cream onto the stencils (do not brush it on) until each is thoroughly covered with a 1/4 inch of cream. View the directions and How To Videos HERE. 6. Leave cream on for 5 minutes 7. Rinse off all of the etching cream under running water. Remove stencils and rinse again. Pat the stencil dry and return to the carrier sheet. Dry holder well 8. Open the tube of glue that came in the package of ears. Squeeze a tiny amount onto one end of the toothpick and let dry. This will be the pickup end for your rhinestones. 9. Squeeze a small amount of the glue onto the scrap of tin foil (do not squeeze out too much at one time, it gets gummy and dries quickly). Dip the unglued end of the toothpick into the glue and pick up a small amount that is slightly smaller than the rhinestone. Dot the glue in among one of the bubbles. Immediately turn the toothpick around to the dried glue end and press onto the front side of a rhinestone. The stone will stick to the toothpick temporarily and allow you to transfer it to the glass. Press the stone gently into the glue until you see it just barely come to the edge of the stone.Repeat this process along the coral reef, gluing the rhinestones between the etched bubbles. Referring the picture as your guide, glue a curved line of bubbles using the larger stones from the mermaids tail on out to the ocean to simulate the disturbance her tail makes while swimming |
