Fan Perfume Bottle

Supplies:

  • #77-7721 Armour Bottle & Jar Cutter
  • #15-0315 Glass cleaner
  • #61-3329 Rub N Buff (gold used here)
  • #85-2171 Sponge brush
  • Sculpey clay-pink
  • Orangina juice bottle
  • Rose or pink Acrylic paint
  • Brush on gloss acrylic sealer
  • Cosmetic sponge
  • Baking sheet
  • Aluminum foil
  • Newspaper
  • Eye protection
  • Canvas gloves (gardening type work well)
  • Cutter wheel oil
  • Paper towels

General Instructions:

  1. Put on canvas gloves and eye protection.
  2. Oil the cutter wheel and set up Bottle cutter as specified in the instruction booklet.
  3. Cut the threaded part of the neck off the bottle. Follow the instructions that come with your Bottle cutter  View the directions and How to Video.
  4. Lay out newspaper on work surface. Gently sand off the sharp cut edges with the sandpaper provided with your kit.
  5. Clean bottle well with glass cleaner to remove any dust and dirt.

Form the fan stopper:

  1. Knead the Sculpey clay in your hands for a minute or so to get it soft and pliable.
  2. Roll out a snake about ½” thick. Cut into 5 segments about 3” long.
  3. Lay the segments side by side and gently push them together but leave the very tips at one end un-joined.
  4. On one end, shape clay into a stopper to fit the opening of the bottle. Trim if there is too much clay.
  5. On the other end of the clay, tilt the joined segments to one side. Flatten the ends with your thumb. Shape the tip of each segment into a scallop shape. Refer to picture to see how the tips should look.
  6. Place the fan stopper on a cookie sheet and bake at 275 degrees on middle rack in the oven for about 10 minutes in a well-ventilated room. Check often and flip over stopper half way through baking. Do not allow to over-bake. If clay is a little thick, it may need to bake a minute or two longer but no more than 15 minutes. Check constantly until clay is firm. Cool completely.

Decorating the bottle:

  1. Paint entire bottle and stopper with pink acrylic paint. Let dry.
  2. Apply 1-2 coats of clear acrylic sealer. Let dry.
  3. Squeeze a tiny amount (a little goes a long way!) of gold Rub N Buff (RNB) on a cosmetic sponge. Spread out over sponge until there is no loose wax. You can fold the sponge in half work to it in, or you can use two sponges and rub them against each other.
  4. Dab and brush sponge randomly around bottle and fan stopper until you are pleased with the look. Apply more Rub N Buff to the sponge as needed. RNB dries it just a few minutes and there is no need to seal it.
