  • #61-3342 Gem Tac Glue
  • #85-2171 Sponge brush
  • #61-3329 Gold Rub N Buff (or gold acrylic paint)
  • Sculpey clay
  • Tall gin or other stately looking liquor bottle
  • Decoupage, scrap-booking, tissue paper or stickers
  • Clay tools
  • Cosmetic sponge
  • Paper cup
  • 3 in 1 Oil
  • Protective gloves
  • Safety glasses

General instructions:

  1. Put on gloves and eye protection.
  2. Oil cutter wheel as specified in instruction booklet.
  3. Cut neck of liquor bottle down to 1”. Follow the instructions that came with your Bottle cutter  View the directions and How to Videos . Discard top.
  4. Gently sand off the sharp cut edge with the sandpaper provided with your kit. Clean with glass cleaner.
  5. Soften 2 pieces of Sculpey clay. One piece should be the size of a large marble, the other the size of an egg yolk. Knead in your hands until pliable, then roll into a ball.
  6. Roll out the smaller clay ball on a board or counter to form a snake about 1/4 “ thick. Wrap around neck of bottle, pinch end and press to roll above it.
  7. Roll out the large clay ball into a short, fat cigar. Form one end into a stopper that fits your bottle. Square up and flatten the other end and form into a butterfly with your fingers and your clay tools. If you wish, you can form the stopper and the butterfly as separate pieces and then join them together after each half is formed (but before baking).
  8. Bake bottle and butterfly stopper separately on a cookie sheet at 265 degrees in the middle of the oven for about 10-15 minutes in a well ventilated room.  Do not bake stopper on bottle, it may cause it to explode. Check oven often. Do not allow to get too brown or burn. Remove from oven when clay is firm to the touch. Check constantly while baking.
  9. Remove cookie sheet from oven and allow everything to cool untouched, away from a cold breeze or counter.
  10. Apply Rub N Buff or gold acrylic paint to the Sculpey clay rope on neck and the butterfly stopper using the cosmetic sponge (or brush for the paint). Let dry.

Decoupage using papers:

  1. Pour some Gem Tac glue into the paper cup.
  2. Apply a coat of Gem Tac over entire glass part of bottle with sponge brush and let dry.
  3. Cut apart butterflies and pansies from paper.
  4. Working in sections, spread more of the Gem Tac glue on a section of the bottle and while glue is still wet, arrange the butterflies and pansies and push into wet glue. Leave some space between the papers so contents will show through. Let glue dry (will dry pretty fast). Repeat around rest of bottle until you are pleased with the arrangement.
  5. Spread another coat of Gem Tac over entire papered bottle. Let dry.

Decoupage using stickers:

  1. For vinyl and plastic coated stickers, just apply to bottle in a pleasing arrangement and you are finished.
  2. For paper stickers that are not coated, apply stickers to bottle, then seal with two coats Gem Tac glue. Let dry.

Additional decorating suggestions:

  1. You can add wisps of glitter to the butterfly wings or flower centers with the #61-3350 or #61-3351 Glitter glue set after Gem tac sealer coat has been applied.
  2. Add rhinestones to the butterfly wings or flower centers. See Etchworld’s rhinestone selection in the craft supply section of our website.
  3. For a decorative piece, glitter the inside of the bottle with the #61-3350 or #61-3351 Glitter set (go to our website and see directions on glittering the insides of glass balls and glass block vase).
